As a martensitic stainless steel with a chromium based chemistry, the best qualities of AEB-L have been optimised by enriching the formula using Nitrogen and Vanadium to create a new ferroalloy that provides exceptional edge performance, high hardness and extreme corrosion resistance especially in marine and wet environments. As leaders in the knife steel supply world, we recognise the ever-present demand not only for steel specifically formulated to suit the cutlery industry but our customers’ desires to stay on the cutting edge of steel that is tough and versatile enough for a pocket, kitchen, hunting, fishing; and tactical knives.
On heat treatment Aldo Bruno the New Jersey Steel Baron who designed this alloy said:
“We’ve been following the same heat treat as AEB-L. We’re getting it to 64/65 Rc after a plate quench from 1980 and dry ice. We leave it at 1980 for 5 minutes before quench. The 1st blade we did we left in for 20 minutes at temp by mistake(to much bullshitting!) and we ended up with 56Rc before cryo, which kind of freaked us out. We through it in the ice for about a minute and it shot up to 63+Rc. We then proceeded to beat the crap out of it for 2 days. I think you guys are going to be pretty happy with what we ended up with.”
