One bar of Crucible CPM 20CV Stainless Tool Steel measuring 3.9 x 38 x 914 mm. A high alloy premium martensitic stainless tool steel.

CPM 20CV steel offers exceptional wear resistance for incredible edge retention due to its elevated level of vanadium carbides. It also has an excellent corrosion resistance as a result of its very high chromium content. CPM 20CV has a great balance of corrosion resistance, hardness and toughness. Strongly regarded for small to medium knives including utility and folding knives.

Produced by the Crucible Particle Metallurgy process, resulting in a finer, more uniform carbide distribution that lends improved toughness and grindability to highly alloyed steels.

CPM 20CV is often considered Crucible’s version of Böhler’s M390.

Comes annealed (soft) and Blanchard surface ground to remove mill scale.

Alloy Composition:

Recommended Heat Treatment:

• Seal blade in two layers of double crimped high temperature Stainless Steel Tool Wrap
• Preheat to 780°C, hold for 5 minutes
• Austenitise at 1150°C for 30 minutes
• Plate quench
• Cold treatment; domestic freezer, dry ice slurry, liquid nitrogen – the colder the better
• Temper at 200°C for 2 hours, twice

Recommended working hardness 60-62HR
