Description
One bar of hot rolled O1 Tool Steel measuring 4.8 x 50 x 915 mm.
O1 tool steel is a general purpose oil hardening, cold work, high carbon tool steel with an excellent blend of hardness, toughness and ease of sharpening. It is simple to work whether making knives by stock removal or forging and is a popular choice for bushcraft knives. Historically, it was famously used by Bo Randall in the creation of combat knives for servicemen in World War 2.
Suitable for intermediate to experienced knifemakers. While O1’s high level of manganese makes it easy to harden, precise temperature control is required during heat treatment to get the most out of the steel.
O1 can also be paired with L6 Tool Steel to make a premium damascus pattern welded steel, where the O1 forms dark lines and the high nickel L6 forms bright lines in the pattern.
