Description

This Strap on Surface Grinder Attachment is one of the most popular attachments for belt grinders. The surface grinder can assist you in descaling/flattening billets, tapering tangs, adding distal tapers to knife blades and evenly achieving a given thickness over the length of a blade. Features a 5″ contact wheel and magnetic chuck face* which can be adjusted to provide a taper.

Note: This is a precision grinder attachment made to remove small amounts of material at a time. It is recommended you don’t try to remove more than 0.10 mm of material (1/12 a turn of the adjustment knob) per pass of the surface grinder. Removing more can cause overheating of your work piece and the magnetic chuck, potentially damaging the chuck face. For precise removal, a Digital Travel Indicator can be purchased and fitted to an existing mount on the surface grinder.

• Magnetic chuck face with 50 x 300 mm of magnetised area to place steel on. Magnets are strong enough to ensure steel does not move while being worked on. Comes with a safety guard. This ensures work pieces don’t shoot out if too much material is removed in one pass. Chuck face is adjustable, allowing for precision angles. This is ideal for grinding in tapered tangs and even distal tapers in blades

* The magnetic chuck face will require truing upon setting up, otherwise it may not be perfectly perpendicular to your 5″ contact wheel. Care needs to be taken not to overheat your chuck face while doing this as it can cause the chuck face to bow. Instructions on this are available in the video below.
